Thank you @MagazineMarquee for choosing me as your fall cover story, and George Pimentel for the beautiful photos! I talk about feeling like an outsider in media, learning that “no” is a full sentence, and why I don’t love the term “ally”. Find it here: https://t.co/73yglOYUJv
Today marks the inaugural National Day of Truth & Reconciliation to remember, learn, reflect,& act on mandates. Honour the survivors & reflect on the lasting negative impacts these schools have had on Indigenous communities across the nation. #TruthandReconciliationDay@PL416
“And when I am asked
what does reconciliation mean to me
I will say I want their lives back
I want them to live, to soar
I want to hear their laughter
See their smiles
Give me that
And I’ll grant you reconciliation”
-- Chief Laforme's poem, Reconciliation
#EveryChildMatters 🧡
Please visit Celebration Square today if you can, or visit https://t.co/HaxhsKQWz1 to learn more about #TruthAndReconciliation and the experience of Indigenous people in Canada.
To mark National Day for #TruthAndReconciliation, screens at @MCSEvents will be displaying all 94 Calls to Action from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, rotating throughout the day.
At 12, 2, 6, & 8pm, screens will also be playing short films from Indigenous filmmakers.
Only by first understanding the truth of what happened at residential schools & learning about the experiences of Indigenous peoples in Canada, can we truly have meaningful reconciliation.
As we mark National Day for #TruthAndReconciliation, we must take time to learn & reflect.
Remembering the Indigenous children murdered in residential school and honouring the survivors. Please pause and reflect. And for non-Indigenous people think about your commitments & actions to reconciliation, reparation & restitution #NationalDayforTruthandReconciliation
Together, we must continue to learn about residential schools and the intergenerational trauma they have caused. It is only by facing these truths and righting these wrongs that we, in partnership with Indigenous peoples, can move toward a better future. https://t.co/Myv6w3lTkn

(1/3) Today is the first #NationalDayforTruthandReconciliation We reflect on this day & encourage everyone to make space for contemplation, action & learning to support Truth, Reconciliation and Reciprocity, to support local Indigenous-led activities, learn from Indigenous
(2/3) organizations & review the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) of Canada’s Calls to Action.
