Actually, since the government provides services like copyright law, roads, military, etc that are necessary for creating art, the government is justified in taking a percentage of an artists work and using it for its own purposes. Just like how everybody else's labor is taxed.
And this goes especially so for treating your approval of justices based on how much stuff you like they passed and dislike they blocked.
You really don't want to live in a world where justices are heavily influenced by public approval.
The Supreme Court is not a political insitution, not because it isn't involved with politics, but because it isn't a legislative body. It's function isn't like a special tiny ultimate wing of the legislature that gets a final vote on policy.
And regardless of your feelings, treating the court as if they are our representatives who should vote based on our likes and dislikes, rather than voting based on dispassionate legal arguments and analysis, you are damaging our norms and democracy as much as anyone else.
If Senators being appointed by the democratically elected state representatives is somehow undemocratic or illegitimate, then so is all state legislation, and all legislation passed by the house of representatives.
WTF?? House Republicans just introduced a measure to REPEAL the 17th Amendment of the US Constitution. They want to ban the people from voting for our US Senators. Instead, they want the Legislature to appoint our Senators.
