@MarastiMattia Grazie! Negli ultimi anni ho lavorato con colleghi provenienti da vari campi (dalla chimica alla sociologia) per indagare questi fenomeni. E ovviamente questo qui è solo un aspetto...ma appunto sempre più centrale.
Here's the thing. We have **NO IDEA** how to pick good graduate students. I served on admission committees for 10+ years, and chaired a few, and what I learned is that all the spreadsheets of grades and test scores and recommendations and essays and publications and interview rubrics are just an elaborate ruse to pretend we know what we're doing when we simply don't. Many of the most highly ranked applicants to our "top" program flamed out quickly, and tons of the students we summarily rejected have turned into amazing scientists. But in the name of creating meritocratic seeming rankings that are more about creating a workforce than great scientists (a system that anyone paying attention knows is bullshit), we've created a homogenous process adopted by nearly all institutions that has stamped out the one thing we should be striving for - given our lack of any clear understanding of what leads to success - a wide range of difference talents and experiences.

A lot of great topics and speakers.
And I will have the honour of charing some sessions.
Looking forward to it!
I promoted @PubPeer at the philosophers IN science conference (@philinbiomed). It is a great tool for philosophers as well, since we can check if the empirical studies we use, are discussed by the scientific community or have issues.
@_Nano_Bubbles legacy expands a bit, I hope

@ItaiYanai Thank you for sharing this. A fine example, in my humble opinion, of an issue where empirical research and theoretical (and meta-theoretical, or philosophical) reflection go hand in hand. Or at least they should 😅...
@CrazyItalianPol True, but since you had written that 'the meme concept had not been invented' I felt I had to write. We did not call these ones memes, but they were memes, or at least, the concept in theory was already there...
@fintechfrank Platitudes passed off as facts. No analysis. I could cite similar examples in the last two years in the Netherlands or Germany. Or should I think it is just to increase one's visibility?
A week full of scientific discussions with the best team in the world comes to an end.
I got a lot of inspiration from the brainstorming sessions, the breakout sessions and the individual advice that could easily come from a walk in nature.
Thanks to the whole @_Nano_Bubbles !
