PRECOCIOUS PUBERTY.
Dear Luniia, Do not fret, your daughter may just be ok as she is 8 years old. However, there is a grey area around 8 years of age for a girl child seeing her period and having other signs of puberty to label her as having PRECOCIOUS PUBERTY
First thing you rule out is if there isn't foreign body or infection and most importantly Gender Based Violence.
Let's discuss with it for the benefit of other parents who experience Something similar...
Understanding Precocious Puberty 🌟
Precocious puberty is when children's bodies begin changing into those of young adults earlier than usual. Typically, before age 8 in girls and before age 9 in boys.
⚠️ Signs to Watch For:
° Early breast development or pubic hair
° Rapid growth spurts
° Acne
° Adult body odor
🔍 Why It Matters:
Can lead to psychological stress due to standing out among peers.
Potential impact on final adult height if not addressed.
🩺 What Can Be Done?
Consult a pediatric endocrinologist for evaluation.
Treatment might involve hormone therapy to pause the process until an appropriate age.
Let's raise awareness to support our kids better! Share this if you know someone who might need this info.
Remember, if you or someone you know sees signs of precocious puberty, speaking with a healthcare provider is crucial for guidance and peace of mind.
MAMMOGRAM AND BREAST CANCER 🎀
Breast cancer is a topic close to my heart.
This year 2025, someone dear to me received a breast cancer diagnosis, but we found solace in the fact that it was detected early.
Who would have taught these regular "preachings" would help someone so dear?
The importance of regular breast examinations cannot be overstated, as they played a crucial role in catching the cancer at a manageable stage. Early detection truly makes a difference in the fight against breast cancer.
Beat it early, it's a weak opponent when you hit it early.
Facts about this (Read slowly)
- Preventive medicine is the new flex in any branch of medicine. Primary prevention is the in-thing now.
- Routine breast examination. This can't be overemphasised especially for women. Now, If you haven't done breast examination this week. Pick 2 days of the week... Let's pick Mondays and Thursdays.
- Breast examination must be done at least once a month, say after your periods (for those who can't do regular examination)
Now, sit on your bed, in front of a mirror. Divide your breast into 4 quadrants and press it softly, then deep. Check if there are lumps and if there is pain. Press your nipples and see if there is any milk or fluid or blood discharge. Don't stop, go to your armpit, examine everywhere there and see if there is any lump.
Now lay on your back and repeat this same steps!...
Picking up any sinister changes early is the best way to kick breast cancer away!
- When you see any lump or breast colour changes or it looking like the back of an orange fruit or hard, please report to the hospital for proper examination and a breast Ultrasound
- Now on MAMMOGRAM.
Usually, depending on the region you find yourself, mammogram starts at about 40... but if you haven't started it... you can commence at 50. It is done every other year in some regions. Some say every other time intervals. In any way, its important to do. This is good health seeking attitude from women.
Mammogram can help clearly see your breast tissues.
- If you have a family history of breast, ovary, lining of the womb, cervical or vulva cancer... YOU MUST BE TWICE AS MORE CAREFUL THAN OTHER PEOPLE HERE. It is advised for you to go for more advanced screening like BRCA genes screening (like Angelina Jolie did and it was positive, of which both were removed) and this can save your life. You will be advised on what to do.
- If a family member had died from breast cancer. Breast screening using Mammogram and BRCA genes screening should be done at least FIVE Years from the age at which the person died. E.g, if your aunty/ sister died from breast cancer at 40 years... you won't wait for 40 years before you start screening... you MUST start from at least 35 years of age.
- Never overlook any suspicious sign your breast gives you.
- Stop at this point... go back and read all the points stated again
- I'll wait for you.
- Early detection and prompt treatment is key
- Breast cancer screening can be done in pregnancy especially for her high risk women. This is done by shielding the growing baby.
- For me, no woman should be coming to the hospital at stage 3 or 4 disease... it'll be more difficult to treat.
- Protect your breasts. They are a great part of you.
- Be careful of the herbs you use on it
- Ladies with heavy and big boobs, be more careful. You may not even know anything is growing because it may be more difficult to examine. Always examine. press that breast!...
- 40+ women, go for your mammogram especially if you are high risk.
- 50+ women...its a must. Follow your local guidelines.
- 50+ women on hormone replacements... pls ensure your doctor knows you have a breast lump or history of breast cancer or even present... it worsens the breast cancer. It can kill you faster.
- Not all lumps are cancers. Infact, most are benign and a simple removal would aid it.
- Let's beat breast cancer by early detection and prompt treatment.
- Anyone is free to copy and paste this on their TL and increase the awareness.
- Reminders for breast examinations are onMondays and Thursdays routinely posted by @S_U_AUGUST... weldone 👏👏👏. I saw you continued the reminders for the months I was away.
