HARDWARE WALLETS: THEY’VE ALL HAD SECURITY LESSONS
After everything happening lately, people keep asking: “Which hardware wallet is actually safe?”
The answer is more complicated than the name on the device.
Ledger — suffered a massive customer-data breach in 2020, although Ledger says private keys and crypto were not compromised. In 2023, its Connect Kit was compromised and malicious code tricked some users into signing wallet-draining transactions.

Trezor — users have repeatedly been targeted by sophisticated phishing/social-engineering attacks designed to obtain recovery seeds. Trezor emphasizes that anyone obtaining that backup can control the wallet.
Trezor
Tangem — has also faced security scrutiny over software handling of sensitive key information. The important lesson is that a secure physical device can still interact with software, phones and third-party services.
D’CENT — the current 2026 incident is particularly important. Thousands of App Wallet addresses have reportedly been affected and millions of XRP drained. D’CENT has warned certain users to create entirely new recovery phrases, while the full technical root cause has not yet been publicly established.

⚠️ The takeaway: “Hardware wallet” does NOT mean every part of the ecosystem is automatically protected.
The device, recovery phrase, companion app, firmware, transaction signing, third-party integrations and the USER are all part of the security chain.
Don’t just ask, “Which wallet?” Ask: “Where can my keys be exposed, and exactly what am I signing?”
Self-custody still requires vigilance.
