Forced to stay indoors, more than 40 million people have tuned in to the livestreams of two hospitals being built: Cement mixers become unlikely celebrities in #China#coronavirus lockdown https://t.co/Ja2e1FwylF
A giant gathering at Grand Central right now demanding free transit in NYC, and cops out of our subways.
Police just arrested one man for unknown reasons and the crowd surged forward, chanting:
“THE WHOLE WORLD IS WATCHING!”
Ten years ago, taxpayers bailed out @GM. Since, they've outsourced jobs to other countries. Now, they want to undermine their workers' #healthcare coverage. The #UAWStrike is about the 46,000 #UAW workers, but it's also about what kind of nation we want to live in. #StandWithUs
The #UAW workers in the #UAWStrike are exercising their right to join together and fight against attacks on their wages and cuts to their healthcare.
@GM has responded by immediately terminating the workers' #healthcare coverage. Shame on@GM.
I stand with #UAW. #StandWithUs
By striking, workers are saying no to temp work, no to pay stagnation and disparities, no to offshoring -- while corporate profits are soaring. 9/ https://t.co/rgSGXml2BM
Temp work is one way companies lower wages: 7-10% of GM’s workforce is temp. They don’t get protections when plants close, and make $15/hr, compared with $17-35 for new and legacy full-time employees, respectively. Offshoring is another: Auto workers in Mexico make $2.70/hr. 7/
One of the defining issues of the #UAWstrike is GM's increased use of temp workers to staff the lines. There are about 800 temps working in Arlington, around 15 of total staff. That’s roughly double the share at the avg GM plant.
