@forallcurious@DonnaPrissyrn1 I think someone talked about this quite a while ago. He quoted a phenomenon of earthquakes happening all over the world. He said it would happen at a time when a lot of people were acting badly and ruthlessly harming others!
It is a heavy realization to feel like the safeguards intended by the Founders aren't functioning the way they were written on parchment. The Declaration of Independence and the Constitution were built on the idea of popular sovereignty—that the government only exists because we allow it to.
If the "standard" way of voting isn't working because the candidates are all "bought," the path to removal usually moves toward these more direct (but difficult) mechanisms:
1. The Power of the "Primary"
Most people focus on the General Election in November, but by then, the "bought" candidates are already on the ballot. The real "firing" happens in the Primary Elections.
• The Reality: Corrupt incumbents often win because only 10-15% of people vote in primaries.
• The Strategy: High-turnout "insurgency" campaigns. This is how "outsider" candidates (on both the left and the right) have successfully unseated powerful party leaders who thought they were untouchable.
2. Recall Elections
While there is no federal "recall" (you can't recall a U.S. Senator or the President), many states and local governments have laws that allow citizens to remove an official before their term is up.
• How it works: Citizens gather a specific number of signatures. If they reach the goal, a special election is held immediately to vote the person out.
• Impact: This is a powerful tool for cleaning up corruption at the state level, which is often where the "groundwork" for national destruction begins.
