Remembering Marjane Satrapi (1969-2026), an accomplished filmmaker and graphic novelist who joined us at #NYFF45 in 2007 with her co-director Vincent Paronnaud to present their Closing Night selection PERSEPOLIS.
Our condolences to Marjane's family and friends.

Marjan Satrapi wrote the story of our generation. A memoir and a history of Iran’s turbulent 20th-century politics, one comic strip frame at a time.

I wrote about something weird I’ve been seeing online for @NYTmag: people who are outsourcing their morning routines to Claude and ChatGPT https://t.co/MBxOuIvLCK
Celebrating Bruce Dern, who turns 90 today! Loved him in so many films, from They Shoot Horses, Don't They? to The Hateful Eight. Fun fact: while a student at the University of Pennsylvania in the 1950s, he was kicked off the track team for refusing to shave off his sideburns.
The only time I got in trouble at school was in fourth grade, when a teacher saw me reading “Persepolis” and told me it wasn’t appropriate for a 10-year-old.
She was wrong. That book expanded my world and taught me that history belongs to ordinary people.
Rest in peace.
Although the percentage of women-directed films and those films anchored in female characters was disproportionally low at #Cannes2026, the festival's awards testify to their extraordinary talent. @dcarson_critic has more.

Happy Heavenly Birthday to Rosalind Russell. The passage in her memoir where her mother gave her 4 days to find employment as an actress always makes me laugh
Was happy to be a guest here, chatting machismo, Hemi engines, and Warren Oates in Two-Lane Blacktop. With the expert contributions of Jonathan Kirschner @MidCenturyCinem and eminent host Michael Cohen @speechboy71. One of my favourite ever movies.
