While shooting this scene we were running out of time and I had to quickly come up with a way to communicate what was going to be three shots with just a single set up. This shot from Out 1 (1971) popped into my mind immediately.
One of many magical moments during the making of Blue Heron: we were shooting the pivotal ending scene of the film on Vancouver Island, and a photographer happened to walk by and asked if he could take some stills for us, for free.
