The @UN General Assembly has finally taken a historic step: 122 nations have recognized the transatlantic slave trade as the gravest crime against humanity, a truth long demanded by survivors’ descendants and advocates across the world.

This resolution, led by #Ghana, matters because the legacy of slavery is not past; it continues to shape racial injustice, inequality, and discrimination today. It acknowledges the brutal abduction, exploitation, and systemic dehumanization of more than 12.5 million Africans, and affirms that the world can no longer look away from the enduring consequences of this atrocity.

By calling for reparations, accountability, and a global commitment to truth and healing, this vote is a powerful reminder that justice delayed is not justice denied.

This resolution is more than symbolic. It is a demand for moral clarity, historical truth, and global responsibility. The world must not only remember, it must act.

I am heartbroken by the news that César Chávez was a sexual predator, a pedophile, a criminal. It is painful to reconcile his so called "public legacy" so deeply woven into the history of our resistance with the violence and atrocities he inflicted on women and girls, on our communities. But I refuse to look away. We cannot build truth, dignity, or liberation on silence.

I keep thinking about the day I met Dolores Huerta. Her strength, her brilliance, and her unwavering commitment to justice have been an enormous source of inspiration for me and for millions of young Chicana, Mexican, and Indigenous women. To know now the pain she carried quietly, courageously, is devastating. And yet, her suffering is not an exception. Too many women, especially those from marginalized communities, pay a high price for their leadership and resistance. Their bodies, their voices, their dignity become battlegrounds in struggles that are supposed to be about liberation.

Our movements are not exempt from violence. They are not immune to patriarchy. They are not free from the control, coercion, and entitlement that too many men wield behind the scenes, sometimes the very men who claim to fight for justice, the ones elevated as our social leaders. Under the banners of change, they have manipulated, violated, and dominated. They have used their power to control our bodies while preaching freedom.

As I read Dolores Huerta's testimony, I feel a deep, personal pain. A mourning for the women who carried these truths alone. A mourning for the trust betrayed. And a mourning for the realization, once again, that even in movements built on hope and struggle, women’s suffering is too often dismissed, hidden, or sacrificed.

Speaking these truths is an act of love for our movements and an act of justice for survivors. We deserve spaces free from abuse. We deserve leadership that does not harm. We deserve histories that do not erase the cost women have borne.

I stand with @DoloresHuerta . I stand with every woman who has endured violence in the shadows of movements meant to liberate us. And I stand in the conviction that accountability, even when painful, is the only path forward.

We condemn in the strongest possible terms the shooting and killing of a woman in Minneapolis by a federal agent during immigration enforcement operations today. The Trump administration has taken the life of yet another person through the unnecessary use of lethal force - driven by its cruel, anti-immigrant agenda - and again blatantly lied about the circumstances. The growing presence of ICE, along with militarized crackdowns on protests we have witnessed in recent months, have violated the right to freedom of expression and made our communities unsafe, harming all of us. This killing, as well as all ICE-related custodial deaths, must be thoroughly investigated and those responsible for abuses held accountable. More broadly, the attack on our communities by the Trump administration must stop now.

La acción militar llevada a cabo hoy por la Administración de @POTUS en Venezuela, que resultó en la captura de Nicolás Maduro y Cilia Flores, genera graves preocupaciones sobre los derechos humanos de la población venezolana. Muy probablemente constituye una violación del derecho internacional, incluida la Carta de la ONU, al igual que la intención declarada de Estados Unidos de dirigir Venezuela y controlar sus recursos petroleros.

En Amnistía Internacional estamos particularmente preocupados por el riesgo de una mayor escalada de violaciones de derechos humanos en el país, ya sea como resultado de nuevas operaciones estadounidenses o de las respuestas del gobierno venezolano a los ataques de Estados Unidos.

La organización insta al gobierno estadounidense a cumplir con el derecho internacional humanitario y de derechos humanos, priorizar la protección de la población civil y garantizar los derechos humanos de todas las personas privadas de libertad, incluido el debido proceso y un trato humano.

También hace un llamado a las autoridades venezolanas para que se abstengan de más represión en contra de la población, recordándoles que están obligadas por el derecho internacional a respetar y proteger los derechos humanos de todas las personas en Venezuela.

Las personas en mayor riesgo inmediato incluyen a personas defensoras de derechos humanos y activistas políticos que han enfrentado durante años las violaciones y crímenes de derecho internacional cometidos por el gobierno de Maduro. Amnistía Internacional se solidariza con el pueblo venezolano: los miles de víctimas y sobrevivientes, y los millones de personas que han huido tras años de sufrir graves violaciones y crímenes de lesa humanidad.

Amnistía Internacional reitera su llamado de larga data para que el gobierno de Maduro sea investigado y, cuando existan pruebas suficientes, las personas responsables sean procesadas ante un tribunal independiente e imparcial, a fin de garantizar justicia, reparación y garantías de no repetición para las víctimas y sobrevivientes de violaciones en Venezuela.

Amnistía Internacional está alarmada porque el ataque contra Venezuela y la captura de Nicolás Maduro y Cilia Flores por uno de los cinco miembros permanentes del Consejo de Seguridad de las Naciones Unidas profundizan aún más el colapso del derecho internacional y del orden global basado en normas. Estas acciones dan señales de un sistema internacional regido por la fuerza militar, las amenazas y la intimidación, y aumentan el riesgo de acciones de imitación por parte de otros actores.
