Great night out in Mexico City. I can’t tell you about issues with altitude, I’m not an elite athlete preparing for a sustained high-performance challenge. But I can tell you that everyone I met on a stroll around town was in high spirits. Started off listening to a Mariachi band in a bar then to a bar in Polanco (brilliant area, full Mexican rave, countless bars and clubs to choose from) for a reasonably-priced meal with Mexico and England fans.

Then slow journey back (too much to see, not just lack of fitness). Pausing (not for breath) to admire the range of wrestling masks for sale (below) to watching a kickabout in the street and line-dancing with foam (quite a soap opera).

There may well be issues with crowd safety tonight if 1m+ flock into the centre. But this is an incredible city, and I haven't even ventured into the cultural parts yet (pyramids, cathedral, Frida Kahlo museum). My first visit to Mexico City. It won’t be my last.
