@liz_love_lace Reminds me of this article:
“I think the devil is real and he wants you to be more productive. He’s everywhere, spreading wickedness disguised as wisdom.”

@jxmnop Is anyone fixing this? I’m interested in writing highly optimized code for AI, but I’m coming from the math world more than the web app world and it feels like the median software engineer is more interested in design patterns and frameworks than getting >50% hardware utilization
@yeetgenstein@jxmnop I don’t really understand the deepseek paper yet, but it sounds like they found a way to create objective rewards and then found they could generalize to more subjective tasks, and they spent a bunch of compute and researcher thought to assemble a working system. Cool stuff!
@yeetgenstein@jxmnop In robotics my impression is that it’s been hard to figure out how to train in a simulator and generalize the model to the real world.
Language modeling doesn’t have obvious objective rewards that would apply to many of the language tasks we want to solve.
@NealBruceBC I’m not seeing many responses go deeper than Nxd5. I think I’d play it, but I don’t have total confidence about the next move in the variation. Nxd5 exd5 e6+ is tempting, but I think black might survive okay? So I think it must be Rac1+ instead and I think Kd8 or Kb8 feel unclear
@ashleyann_atx I work a pretty cushy office job, and the only issue that’s ever really come up was when a coworker just no call no showed repeatedly, and that didn’t even result in termination.
Talking to your manager and coworkers to find out what the rules are is always a good is a good idea.
@ashleyann_atx “Default” rules are probably something like 2 weeks advance notice for stuff you can plan for. Stuff comes up though and if you get sick or need to take care of someone who’s suddenly sick or if there’s some emergency that needs handling, it’s probably fine to take off suddenly.
@charlove@colin_fraser “Its replies to most queries start to mention the Golden Gate Bridge, even if it’s not directly relevant.
If you ask this “Golden Gate Claude” how to spend $10, it will recommend using it to drive across the Golden Gate Bridge and pay the toll.”
