In other words :
Hey yall, we have burnt billions of dollars on 10+ live service game initiatives that failed so we need to recoup costs by shutting down teams, killing physical, oh and SEVERING TIES WITH ONE OF THE MOST PRESTIGED DEVS IN THE INDUSTRY.
KEEP IT UP PLAYSTATION
> says they want live service games
> buys live service studio
> kills massive live service franchise
> lays off people who know how to make live service games
> says they want metal gear successor
> gets metal gear guy
>
PlayStation got the metal gear guy so he could make them a spiritual successor to metal gear, and then got rid of him when he started making a spiritual successor to metal gear. Masterful gambit
Would like everyone to extend some grace here; Sony didn't make this decision lightly. The PlayStation was getting dangerously close to having a game, and drastic counter-measures had to be taken in response.
