A person not from the States who hasn't joined the military, who has no concept about how the military is organized and has no idea what goes through the minds of people who's occupation is the military is most certainly not qualified to say what a person in the military believes.
I really have so much to say about this ongoing discourse that keeps populating in my feed.
The comments in the screenshot are not only correct but it is absolutely the most privileged take you can ever make in your life. It the opinions of the uninformed, belligerent and otherwise blissfully unaware masses that have the belief that joining the military makes you inherently lesser. That it makes you a killer, or an "enabler" of the system. That the demographic that joins is just middle class white men who want to lord over the third world. That is just inherently untrue.
The military and government overall is an inherently imperfect system but has jumpstarted the lives of so many. Given paths to those with nowhere to turn to. Opportunities for those who don't have the capabilities. And families for those who have had none. The reasons people join are their own, and it's insanely disrespectful to presume it's for anything less than a better life.
It's disheartening that the same privileged and evil narratives that existed when my grandparents were around still linger today and in an exponentially louder and ignorant forum. The contempt these people for service members while Monday morning Quarterbacking everything in your own life won't ever stop but it'd behoove of those who care to help see through the endless waves of bs.
My opinions are my own and I don't wish to take any agency away from my brothers and sisters but it gets to a point where enough is enough.
@muixyui You aren't the real one. The fact you agree with it is comical. You don't know everyone's circumstances for why they join and not every job is the same. Please be for real.
GOP Senator Ted Cruz responds to Rep. Andy Ogles’ anti-gay tweet, “Homosexuality has no place in America”:
“For all of recorded history homosexuals have been part of humanity, and I got to say, I’m quite libertarian by nature. I think the behavior of consenting adults is their business.”
