Behind a court file, lies a soul,
Not just papers and pages,
But real emotions and struggles.

The file holds facts, contracts and deeds,
But silent on stories lost over years,
The patch of earth where grandfather's placenta was interred.

A badge, a midnight call,
No media glare or praise, just the call of duty,
The peace he leaves when the suspect is apprehended.

A loan once signed with enthusiasm,
Giving sleepless nights,
Why did I give? Why did I take?

A father’s silent cry,
A mother’s memory,
A child’s hope that everything disappears.

Behind the stamp and barcode, there is someone’s truth
A truth no brief can hold,
A search for justice, raw and deep.

The pinstripe suit and the confident walk,
The meals foregone and sleepless nights,
Behind the law being clear, someone’s truth must be defended or guided.

In the chamber, tired but still,
A heap of other souls lay, the clock strikes, the calendar page turns,
The gavel bears the weight, any move may leave a scar or ease a pain.

Behind that court file, lives a human.
