I choose my words carefully; that's the tenanted sector fucked. A green accounting exercise with a total lack of joined up thinking. More pressure on fewer & fewer farmed acres, with the balance of food imported regardless of that impact. A quick city £ making scheme.
Keep an eye out for aphids in stubbles and cover crops. Early burn off helps decrease numbers by depriving them of a food source, so they starve or migrate away before the new crop emerges.

Isn't it interesting that the cost of food is blamed for the rate of inflation today - welcome to the REAL cost of your food, if people don't wake up soon to land being removed from production for lots of reasons they will also be waking up hungry as well as feeling the pinch !

My piece for @FarmersWeekly remarking on the surreality of where 🇬🇧 food & farming is in 2023.

“Those who worry that [ELM] will cause some farmers to go out of business are missing the point. Rightly or wrongly, keeping farmers in business is not one of its objectives. That’s a decision the Conservative Party must take responsibility for.”

That's all of ag, livestock is about half of the ag footprint with a lot of work being done to reduce that further in the UK. "Its not the cow it's the how."
