I say that a mistake we are making in education is that we are pretending that young people are essentially all the same, and that their needs can be met with a standardised package of education. We treat them as blank slates, as buckets to be filled. 2/

Lakers is a social and recreation Club in Bray, Co. Wicklow, looking after individuals with intellectual disabilities, with 300+ members and 60+ classes a week. Fire destroyed their premises in 2018, they are now close to building a new home. Any donations would be amazing!
@SwailesRuth@Sue_Cowley@Ofstednews What about SEND schools? Don’t think I’ve ever met an inspector who really understood the pupils we work with. Inspectors with SEND experience are vanishingly rare. (And also there’s a huge amount of variability in who the schools serve)
@SEN_advice@MattHancock Agreed. How about DLD or Autism? No need to single out conditions. They can ALL present a barrier to learning. Address the SEND system in its entirety. The system is fundamentally flawed. A 51 week for tribunals is just one example of how broken it is.
Exactly this. No increase in funding and thousands of pounds needed for deserved salary increases. Special schools due to staff numbers are going to be the hardest hit.
