My latest op-ed in @trtafrika
Israel’s recognition of Somaliland made headlines, but it did not change the legal or political reality: Somalia remains one sovereign state.

Today, H.E. President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud addressed the Federal Parliament, highlighting key government priorities, including strengthening national security, advancing democratization, and furthering Somalia’s state-building efforts.
H.E. President @HassanSMohamud received UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, Tom Fletcher, at Villa Somalia Presidential Palace.
They discussed Somalia’s humanitarian priorities and ongoing recovery efforts, underscoring the importance of sustained partnership and coordination through the Somalia Disaster Management Agency @SoDMA_Somalia.
International legitimacy cannot be manufactured through informal diplomacy, external patronage, or photo opportunities. The international system continues to recognize Somalia as a sovereign, unified state.

Aptly & pertinent to geopolitics in general & Somalia’s sovereignty in particular. Prez HSM emphasized“Somalia’s territorial integrity is non-negotiable.Any attempts to undermine it will not succeed & all disputes must be resolved within the framework of our federal constitution.
Despite the publicity surrounding Israel’s recognition of North West of Somalia (Somaliland) as independent country, the legal and political reality remains unchanged: Somalia is one sovereign state.
Thanks abti @Fiqi_OmarM
Timely reporting by TRT, a must watch for anyone trying to understand the strategic context behind Israel’s push for a Red Sea corridor & its potential to further destabilize the Horn of Africa.
Israel turns Somaliland into a Red Sea front amid revelations of a 1940s Jewish resettlement plan. Netanyahu’s recognition is just the tip as covert bases, cyber networks, and a voracious appetite for resources expose a shadow war in the Horn of Africa
@PhiloSomalia Your take feels out of touch. Somalia’s current internal and external threats make “Somali solutions” far more complicated than this tweet suggests
Ethiopia should carefully consider the implications of recognizing Sland. In a state built on ethnic federalism, secessionist precedents are far easier to trigger internally & such miscalculation would have far reaching ramifications beyond Somalia’s borders.
Somalia must be cautious about the neoliberal economic agenda advanced by the Bretton Woods, it is largely a debt trap. These policies often prioritize creditor interests over the development needs of vulnerable countries.
A must-read for Somali policymakers& economists. (2/2)
Just finished reading Dead Aid by Dambisa Moyo — a powerful critique of Western aid programs in Africa that also outlines alternative financial strategies for development in the world’s poorest countries. (1/2)
Had an insightful exchange over lunch with Somalia’s Ambassador to Turkey, @Fathudin_Ospite . Grateful for the engaging conversation and shared perspectives.
Hadii uu Eebbe weyne idmo, Somalia waxay ku socota wadadii barwaaqada, baraaraha iyo isku filnanshaha.

Today is a monumental day for 🇹🇷&🇸🇴as Oruc Reis Seismic research ship embarked from Istanbul to Mogadishu to conduct 3D Seismic on offshore Somalia. I am Very grateful to participate in the farewell ceremony with H.E president @RTErdogan and H.E Minister @aBayraktar1.
