Firelight raises $8M in a seed round led by @GumiCryptos, with participation from @Maven11Capital, @metalayervc, @tribecap & Joint Effects.
The round supports our work closing DeFi's protection gap. ~$80B in TVL sits across DeFi today, and only a fraction is protected.

So the roadmap is finally out. from the day the XRP FLR community first sat with the idea of defi insurance, to phase 1 staking FXRP on @firelight for points, then the $8m seed, audits done, consortium done — now phase 2 is just until the end of september. that’s when the protocol goes live, staked capital starts backing real cover, the first partners get announced, and early october is when rewards land. this is the interesting part: no more farming points. now we see whether xrp on flare actually becomes capital that protects defi.
The Firelight Protocol roadmap is LIVE!
We have recently completed significant milestones, including our $8M Seed Round and full protocol audits.
Looking ahead, we are preparing for the Firelight Protocol launch and the announcement of our first coverage partners at the end of September!
Here's a detailed timeline of our past, ongoing, and upcoming core milestones.
~$80B sits in DeFi today, yet only a fraction of a percent is protected by onchain cover.
That is a massive piece of financial infrastructure still waiting to be built.
Firelight starts with XRP as the capital behind that protection. Staked FXRP can back cover for DeFi protocols and vaults, those protocols pay for protection, and stakers can ultimately participate in the fees generated by real usage.
The model is already designed to expand beyond XRP to BTC and XLM.
And this is where Flare’s broader value becomes key: turning assets that historically sat outside smart contract ecosystems into programmable capital that can be used across lending, liquidity, protection and other financial products.
@ConnorSullie puts it plainly in the live with @Firelightfi, @metalayervc and @Maven11Capital: « Not the sexy answer but in a near future DeFi will look more boring, but in a good way. DeFi will be major, just behind the scenes. He adds up: DeFi interactions will reach not billions but 👉 trillions, built on top of DeFi rails »
@Firelightfi will sit as the protection layer that fintechs and institutions plug behind their yield products. The end user will use the infrastructure and never know they touched a protocol.
I’m telling you, you are not bullish enough. 📈 🐂
Watch closely 👇
DeFi has spent years building better ways to move and deploy capital.
But there’s still one major piece missing:
Protection.
What happens when the protocol you trust gets exploited?
This is the problem @Firelightfi is trying to solve.
Here’s the thesis 🧵🔻
