No it's not circular reasoning. It's basic geometry. A sphere cannot be projected into a plane without distortion. Every flat map on earth has distortions and distances, areas, and shapes even for that reason.

Now if the earth was flat, an undistorted map would be very possible and trivial. But interestingly none exist, because it isn't flat.

But hey, the good news is you can easily prove this wrong. All you have to do is show us a map that matches measured distances in areas across the whole world without stretching or cutting.
