KRIPA KARO MAHARAJ.๐ฉ
GPT-6 ASTRA + HIGGSFIELD CAN BUILD A $35,000 SITE FOR A BRITISH SPORTS CAR, AND IT IS LAID OUT THE WAY A CAR MAGAZINE LAYS OUT A COVER STORY.
the hero is two open speedsters on warm cream paper, and the name longbow is so large that it runs off the edge of the screen.
I honestly thought I was looking at a page from a printed car magazine, and I think that is exactly the point.
I have always shot cars the other way, on a mountain road at sunset, because it is the safe choice that every client asks for..
"THE PAPER IS THE WHOLE POSITIONING"
for me the smartest decision on this page is the cream background, because it makes a brand new car feel like something that has been sitting in a classic motoring archive for fifty years.
the small serif captions and the thin column rules finish that effect, and I caught myself reading the page slowly, the way you read a magazine, instead of scrolling past it.
I would have used a black background with a glossy render, and I am a little embarrassed to admit I would not have spent thirty seconds thinking about it.
"THE TAGLINE ARRIVES IN THE DARK"
halfway down, the page drops into black and a line about the speed of lightness appears in tall condensed letters with the car peeking out from behind them.
I love that this is the only moment the site raises its voice, because everything before it was so quiet that the line hits you like a real headline.
if I had built this, I would have put that line in the hero, where it would have fought with the car for attention and I think it would have lost.
"THE PRESS DOES THE BRAGGING"
right after the tagline there is a black strip with the logos of motoring magazines and a quote about britain's most legendary sports cars.
I really respect that the brand never praises itself here, because in my experience one line from a journalist carries more weight than anything a company writes about itself.
every car launch site I have worked on filled this space with top speed and horsepower, and I do not think a single visitor ever remembered those numbers the next day.
"THE CAR ONLY MOVES IN A FRAME"
the driving footage plays inside a small window in the middle of the page, with the car coming towards you under a bridge on an empty road.
I think keeping the video small is what makes it feel precious, because you lean in to watch it instead of letting it wash over you like a background.
my instinct would have been a full screen autoplay video, and looking at this now I can see it would have turned the site into one more car advert.
"THE FOUNDERS SIGN THEIR NAMES"
near the end the people behind the car appear in black and white portraits, and each one has a handwritten signature next to the photo.
to me a signature says that a real person is responsible for this car, which is a promise that no spec sheet can ever make.
I think that is the only thing a buyer at this price really needs to believe, and this page gets it across without writing a single sentence about trust.
