On the first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation the CIFHF is pausing to reflect and learn. Coastal communities across this country have strong ties to indigenous communities and the history of the residential school system rests heavy.
3/3 In their call for the government to extend the deadlines and sit down with industry reps to fix the program so that it actually helps those it’s supposed to.
2/3 This is just one more example of how the Trudeau Liberals have cost Canadians. Fishers have been hurting because of the pandemic and their needs are not being met. @RABlaney and I stand with the Independent Fish Harvester's Federation.
1/3 The Fish Harvester Benefit Program, which runs until October 1, was supposed to support commercial fishers through a very difficult year. Instead, it’s making life even worse with for over 4000 harvesters as DFO claw backs nearly $18M.
Most of our owner operators work from Small Craft Harbours managed by Harbour Authorities. This financial support for infrastructure is important for all coastal communities who contribute to the #BlueEcomony#Budget2021
🇨🇦’s seafood sector brings in over $6 billion per year. 90% of that product comes through small craft harbours.
#Budget2021 invests $300 million to upgrade & build better SC harbours. More jobs in our coastal communities ➡️ a stronger #BlueEconomy for Canada.
Today was Day 1 of our 8th annual meeting. We were pleased to have Minister @BernJordanMP open our meeting to talk about the new regs to support owner operator and the many other issues facing the fishery.
