Some of the biggest threats to the oceans are from fisheries. Join us this February by going #FishFreeFebruary and raise awareness on the state of the oceans.
Thank you to everyone who joined the challenge this year!
Fish Free February is a grassroots charity established in 2020. If you would like to see the #FishFreeFebruary charity and campaign grow, please consider donating to help us achieve our goals.

High Seas Treaty Agreed! After a decade or more of negotiations, nations have finally agreed on the High Seas Treaty to protect the area of ocean outside national boundaries from #overfishing as well as threats like shipping and deep sea mining.

At #FishFreeFebruary we value healthy oceans and believe they deserve greater levels of protections than we are currently affording them.

Farmed seafood supplies roughly 40% of our seafood. While fish farming can reduce pressures on wildlife population and bycatch of non-target species, it comes with its own host of ecological challenges, including habitat destruction, spread of diseases and oxygen depletion!
Happy #EarthDay2022 π
Today is a day to reflect on our impact on the world around us. Why not learn more about the impacts of fisheries on our oceans today?

Did you know, there are over 300 identified species of squid?
Most of these species will only be found in the deep ocean. But despite this, they are often targeted by fisheries and many populations face steep declines!
A study published in Nature in 2018 found that a stunning 46% of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch is comprised of fishing nets! 46%!
Encouraging sustainable fishing practises and reducing seafood consumption are two important steps in minimising the impacts of ghost gear!
Whether fish are sentient was long debated, but fish meet all the requirements for the ability to feel pain, including possessing receptors to detect pain and changing their behaviour in response to pain.
