@CoreyLeander@cafreiman You think too small. We live in a global market where money can go anywhere. Income is largely domestic, but investment can be global and rates need to compete on a global market.
I think it's a sociologically interesting question why so many social scientists act as though their papers tested things they definitely didn't.
A less interesting question is why so many people believe them and why debunking does so little to help.
@CoreyLeander@cafreiman Yes. And when deciding what to do with that after tax income, the choice to invest in our economy needs to be more attractive than the alternatives, which is why capital gains rates are different than income tax rates.

They already paid income taxes and they chose to invest it, providing essential capital that drives our economy, which we want to incentivize. This is why capital gains rates are different.
