You can tell a lot about a person by what they do after hurting you. Some apologize. Some reflect. Some change. And some will rewrite the entire story in their head just to avoid feeling guilty. Accountability is rare because protecting the ego is easier than becoming better.
You should never be expected to be the bigger person when you didn't create the discomfort in the first place. Too many people cause the chaos, cross the line, then want you to swallow your feelings just to keep the peace.
Accountability matters. Being mature doesn't mean accepting disrespect or cleaning up messes you didn't make. Sometimes protecting your peace means standing firm and letting folks sit in the consequences of what they caused.
I dunno... Personally the village that raised me included both grandparents. My grandad took me to and from school most days. My male cousins used to look after me and take me out as much as aunties and godmothers...
“The village” never includes y’alls brothers, uncles, dads, grandfathers etc. It’s always women; mostly unmarried women and or older women. The village is specifically set up to siphon more labour from women, to make up for the incompetence of men.
tbh ADHD is not being able to clean your own kitchen for 6 days but volunteering at a community event for 6 hours on a Saturday because other people's needs activate your brain in ways your own needs don't.
adult friendships have taught me that sometimes the person you regard as a “close friend” isn’t really your friend. and that’s okay, take your L and move on.
My position on Kanye is whilst I think he was and is very mentally ill, he went way too far and has yet to sufficiently make amends or take accountability. With that said, the whole furore is exposing the hypocrisy and hierarchising of whose pain matters.
I don't accept people treating me weirdly when they're "going through something" because when I'm going through something I'm still nice and I'm still kind and I don't feel like that's an excuse to treat people like shit.
There are just people that don’t have any principles and don’t stand for anything and that’s OK because that’s their life. You cannot fuss a person into having principles or values. Some people will just always be putrescent bottomless pits. That’s on them.
