Over 3,000 fewer children are living in poverty in Florida.
In this video, Florida Chamber Foundation Senior Research Economist Sheridan Morby is joined by Kristina Donohue, Director of Mission Advancement & Board Development for the Florida Chamber Foundation's Florida Prosperity Initiative, to analyze where our state currently stands on creating a path to self-sufficiency for all Floridians, while tackling the Florida 2030 Blueprint goal of cutting Florida childhood poverty in half: https://t.co/bcYBQMClh8
Some of the key findings covered:
Currently, there are 711,576 children in Florida (16.5%) living in poverty. This is a 0.4% decline from the year prior.
Half of all Florida children in poverty live in just 15% of our 983 zip codes.
Children under 5 face the highest poverty rate (~18%).
Housing costs put pressure on household budgets, as the average median rent in Florida is nearly 40% of the median income.

The 2026 Florida Economic Outlook (releasing tomorrow) offers economic insights and predictions for the year ahead.
As discussed by Sheridan Morby, Senior Research Economist at the Florida Chamber Foundation, and Mark Wilson, President & CEO, Florida Chamber of Commerce and Foundation, at today's 2026 Florida Economic Outlook & Jobs Solution Summit, key takeaways from the 2026 Florida Economic Outlook include:
-Florida’s labor market is growing faster than the nation’s, and unemployment is expected to remain below the U.S. rate.
-Florida is not expected to go through a recession and Florida has been outpacing national growth for over 10 years.
-1-2 Interest rate cuts will be utilized to stimulate the labor market, though this is unlikely to apply downward pressure on prices.
-At the end of 2025, single-family home sales began to increase, so now all eyes are on inventory and mortgage rates.
-Florida’s net domestic migration is slowing, but this is a trend across many states. It appears to be a sign of stabilizing after years of rapid growth. Florida is still #1 in domestic in-migration.
