I’ll start this out by saying shoutout to the whole Flank Panel for asking questions the community wanted asked, and pushing back during certain instances where it was certainly warranted. I thought Sam and Zinni were fantastic Co-Hosts yesterday.
My biggest takeaway from the Daniel Tsay interview is that the League appears confident their data understands the community better than the community understands itself.
They won’t adjust the LAN format the community wants because their metrics favor the current approach. They won’t adjust the grand finals format the community has asked for, for the same reason. The response to community feedback has been to just point back at the numbers.
But you can’t wave win percentages and viewership figures at the viewers and tell them:
“We hear that you think you want it this way, but the fact that you’re still tuning in proves our way is right.”
Engagement isn’t consent. People watch because they love the esport, not because every decision made around it is the one we’ve wanted. Treating our attention as a referendum we’ve already lost is how you burnt through any goodwill that took years to build prior to the CDL’s inception.
We had a format that worked well before you ever came along, so reinventing the wheel and telling us we like this way better because your numbers say so is just condescending Corpo talk.
MW19 propaganda on my timeline I can’t believe my eyes.
That game did irreversible damage to COD and it is without a doubt the worst COD title ever made.
