The CIA once won a battle by convincing an entire army that they were being hunted by vampires...

In 1950s, the CIA sent Colonel Edward Lansdale to the Philippines to crush the Hukbalahap communist rebels. Lansdale realized he couldn't beat them in the jungle, so he decided to beat them psychologically. He learned that the local fighters were incredibly superstitious and terrified of a mythical creature called the "Aswang."

The Aswang is a shape-shifting, vampire-like monster that is said to drain the blood of its victims. So, Lansdale weaponized their folklore. His squad set up an ambush and silently snatched the last man in a rebel patrol line. Took his life, but they didn't just leave the body, they used a specialized tool to puncture two distinct "fang marks" into the man’s neck. Then, they hung the body upside down until every single drop of blood was drained out. They left the body right in the middle of the trail for his friends to find.

When the rebels returned and saw the body, they didn't think "military ambush." They thought, "The monster is real." The fear was so intense that the entire rebel squadron evacuated the region immediately.
