Every April 15, MLB honors the life and legacy of one of the most important players in the history of professional sports, Jackie Robinson.
On April 15, 1947, Robinson broke the color barrier when debuting with the then-Brooklyn Dodgers. Prior to his monumental breakthrough, America’s pastime had been segregated. While Robinson had a hall-of-fame playing career in his own right, what he meant for sports and Americana in general can never be fully appreciated. MLB has always made it a point to honor him.
His No. 42 jersey is retired by every team in baseball. Every April 15, we remember his sacrifices.
