Twenty dollars an hour for every minimum-wage job is bullshit.

It’s called minimum wage for a reason. It’s the bottom rung of the ladder, not a penthouse with a dental plan. Those jobs were meant for people just entering the workforce, learning how to show up on time, wear pants and how not tell a customer to go to hell, or for older people looking to supplement Social Security.
They were never supposed to finance a house, two cars, three kids, four streaming services and DoorDash every night because cooking feels oppressive.

Somewhere along the way, people decided that if a job exists, it owes you your entire dream lifestyle. No, sometimes a job is just where you start. You gain experience, learn something useful, become more valuable and move up. But now people want to put in minimum effort for maximum pay and act like the employer is stealing from them. If you want maximum money, you have to bring maximum value. You can’t wander in twenty minutes late, spend half your shift looking at TikTok and then demand enough money to qualify for a mortgage.

And businesses don’t magically manufacture money in the back room. Raise every starter job to twenty dollars an hour and the hamburger becomes eighteen dollars, the cashier becomes a touchscreen and the employee demanding a “living wage” gets replaced by a kiosk that never calls in sick because its feelings were hurt. Congratulations, you fought for twenty dollars an hour until your minimum wage became zero.
