Over the last four years, many working class Americans with limited means faced unexpected medical bills, auto repairs & higher grocery bills. One company set up an innovative solution by creating a platform to allow borrowers & lenders to connect for loans at no interest, with borrowers able to tip the lender and also donate to keep the platform going. Shockingly, the CFPB tried to destroy this company, SoLo, which incurred millions in legal fees and had to lay off 30% of its workforce. It was wrong and we dismissed the case. Most people won't believe you if you tell them the United States taxes innovation. Since 2022, R&D expenses are no longer able to be 100% deducted. They must be amortized. There is a bill in the Senate that passed the house with over 350 votes that would provide a 3 year extension (back to 2023) for the 100% deduction of R&D expenses. It would also bring back 100% bonus depreciation.

The US is the unequivocal innovation capital of the world. We have the best universities, infrastructure, capital markets, AND entrepreneurs. We cannot tax innovation. We must incentivize it. In China, they provide 175% deductibility for R&D related expenses. Every American business dedicated to growth does R&D. This is universal and apolitical.
