God of War!! Here is a short cinematic animation test I did back in 2009 for Sony Santa Monica. I only had the audio file to go off of without any context, so I envisioned a Kratos that was calm, but having none of it and ready to throw hands. (I'll link to the scene GoW3 in thread) 1/4
Oh man my first GTA and I had no idea it existed. I've heard of and seen the top down GTAs and didn't give them a second look. My girlfriends friend came over and a copy of GTA 3 with them, and when they were to head off to lunch, I stayed home and decided to play it...omg revelatory. That forever changed the way I perceived what game worlds could be.
Driving through a foggy night with Fade Away (Craig Gray) on the radio is just sublime.
@MiladKambari Animbot in Maya does this, and not only is it quite robust there are a LOT of tools. No idea why this isn't more prevalent, but man this is very welcome. Awesome job Milad!!
Definitely not. When that right game hits it hits the same part of my brain that had me fall in love with gaming.
That being said this is the first time in my looong career where I've felt a bit disenchanted, and yea that inevitably spills over into my gaming. I might be cynical now when I see a new game, not trusting as much that I'll be transported to a new world, but given an empty experience that I see is guided by money rather than the passion for the creation.
Between the layoffs of my colleagues and the closures (Bioware for fucks sake!), I don't recognize my industry anymore, or at the very least see it now with different eyes. At least it's redoubled my efforts, interest and love of creating my own games now.
@exQUIZitely Shit I owed you a walkthrough of my office! Appreciate the reminder! (my head has been in Unreal)
Spoiler: I have everything in your pic except the Sinclair, Acorn and the Atari 800XL (but I should get one!)
That's precisely it. I got into this industry because I love creating and love the process. Hell there's a catharsis to retopo and UVing that a lot of people complain about! (I completely understand!).
But yea sculpting characters, rigging them in anticipation of seeing them come to life and then of course animating them is so rewarding. Running them around a game world you also created is a high like no other.
I have one now and in great condition, but back then it was that generation I leap frogged. I had my VIC-20 and my C64, but the Amiga was out of reach (my parents weren't spend that money). However (and of course) my buddy DID have one and boy was I obsessed after using his. First time using an OS. Seeing graphics that gorgeous live and in person. Boggling.
To this day I keep thinking of how ACS (Adventure Construction Set) looked in the Amiga compared to the C64. I believe not having it as a kid imbued it with this mystic that still holds today.
@exQUIZitely Omg yes!! One more 'injury' to add; the inner webbing between your thumb and index finger! That was the best way (for me) to wiggle the Atari 2600 stick quickly, but you would practically run raw a hole in your skin, but it worked! Lol
