As noted above, Bell exit velo numbers are elite and he doesn’t strikeout as much as other options. The Nats will likely be sellers at the deadline and Bell is on a one-year deal.
Raimel Tapia hit 6 home runs in 2021.
They were all impressive:
413ft off Max Scherzer
92 mph slider from Jacob deGrom
417ft off Walker Buhler
Walk-off HR off Hector Neris
422ft grand slam off Aaron Sanchez
442ft vs Arizona
Tapia finished 17th among all MLB outfielders in defensive runs saved (The Fielding Bible) and played significantly fewer innings than some of the guys ahead of him
Reasons to love the Tapia trade:
- He's not owed $18.6 million over the next 2 seasons
- Strikes out less than 96% of the league
- Suitable backup in CF if Springer needs a day off
- LH contact/speed guy
- He's not owed $18.6 million over the next 2 seasons
I'm not sure where the idea came from that every guy in the lineup needs to hit 20+ home runs. Tapia immediately becomes the Jays second-best defensive outfielder and gets on base more than most of the current bench options.
