This will likely be an unpopular post, but I don't give a shit. Unfollow me if you'd like because I'm not here to win friends or become the "popular" one. People need to understand the truth. There is this large drive to build data centers for ONE reason...and ONE reason only. Americans have an insatiable appetite for conveniences. Enjoy online shopping? It requires a data center. Enjoy that streaming show? It requires a data center. Enjoy your cell phone working when you call or text someone? It requires data centers. 98% of the websites you enjoy on a daily basis are hosted in a data center.
So, if you say, "I don't want a data center near me". What you really are saying is you don't want the modern conveniences you enjoy that they provide. Yes, they require LOTS of power. No problem. Quit demanding all the modern conveniences you push for online if you don't want them built near you. Companies don't build these because they just feel like it. They build them because people are DEMANDING the services those data centers provide.
I've worked in IT and data centers for over 20 years. I'm telling you...life as you know it would cease to exist without them. The "bad" data center bullshit being pushed by politicians is just being used to stir you up. None of them understand why they exist, nor care what would happen if we turned all the data centers off. The politicians just want to stir you up so you make a donation to them. That's it. Any state that attempts to "ban" them will quickly lose in court. Why? Because these are all private transactions and are fully legal. People are voluntarily selling their land in a legal transaction. The companies are building them in full protection of the laws. I promise you, the companies building these things have far, far, better lawyers than you do.
Now, if you don't want data centers, then what you should do is throw your phone, computer and anything that connects to the "internet" in the trash. Cancel any and all streaming services or cable TV. Quit using credit cards. That ATM for cash? Yea, you can't use that either....because all banks depend on data centers. Put your money under your mattress instead. Start using pen and paper again and have a land-line installed. I take that back. Even land-lines today use data centers. Read books in your library when you want to learn something new. Basically, put yourself back in the 1950s.
Either do those thing above, or just shut the fuck up. YOU are the reason these data centers are being built.
@mmebovary32680@Ravious101@ShannonJoyRadio Nope…the reasoning in the law that was passed is that police surveillance can lead to criminal charges, so a warrant is needed. Building and zoning are civil. 4th amendment doesn’t apply to them.
@ConservativaPol@ChrisDorworth You are misinformed. However, I doubt you listen to what I have to say, so I won’t waste my time trying to explain it to you.
I love how all the dumb asses in your comments are thinking the data centers are the enemy. They aren’t. But if they really feel that way, let’s turn them all of and see how they enjoy living like it’s 1883. All this nonsense from politicians is just to get donation money out of the pockets of the stupid people who believe the gibberish about how “bad” data centers are, while bitching on X…that depends on data centers to even exist.
@RespectfulWhy@AmericanAir I had AA tell me one time that the incoming plane was delayed due to having to be de-iced. I live in Jacksonville, Florida. The plane….was coming from Miami…..in June. That was the last time I flew them 15 years ago.
I work in IT and have worked in many data centers. Your information is false. They don’t pollute water. Many use evaporative systems that reclaim and reuse it. The newer ones are generally net zero on pollution and water usage. Electrical rates are regulated by the state of Florida. If they are higher near a data center, that’s not their fault. Those rates were approved by the state.
As to noise…well, that’s exactly why a rural area is best. If a land owner wants to sell their land, the state has no business being involved in a legal business transaction. If one gets built in the middle of town, that’s on the city council for zoning and approving it. Focus your rage at the root cause, everyone’s insatiable appetite for technology, not on the data centers that support your fix.
