I sat in on those discussions and France made it impossible and was totally unreasonable. For the record i am a proud EU supporter and a Francophile. You should be ashamed.
Gleefully celebrating the painful disruption to the lives of ambitious middle class families and particularly their kids, torn from friendship groups, forced to try and make new friends at one of the most challenging times in their lives
What you did was cruel & vindictive. For what? Most private schools opened up their facilities to local, often rural, often lacking, communities. Those have gone along with all the jobs lost & the friends of those turfed out of their schools because normal families could no longer afford the increased fees.
On the spiteful nature of Labour’s education policy, let’s revisit the single decision Bridget Philipson made that has been most revealing, as well as frustrating.
Eton and Star Academies wanted to open a great new free school in Middlesbrough to help more talented young people access the best universities - a noble endeavour backed by funding from Eton as well as a commitment to share their passion and expertise.
The last Conservative government said yes in 2023 under @GillianKeegan, in a victory for local children and parents and for a great campaign led by independent Mayor Andy Preston @centre_right_ and Conservative Councillor @MiekaSmiles.
But astonishingly, Labour locally campaigned against it. Andy McDonald MP raged against Eton as a "hallmark of stifling elitism”.
What did Bridget Philipson do when she became Education Secretary? She killed the project. Prejudice trumped social mobility.

@PippaCrerar@davidtpegg It’s hilarious that there has to be constant press releases to explain why Burnham isn’t going to be as bad as everyone really know he will be.
Starmer’s a disaster. Burnham will be a disaster. It’s not the leader - it’s the Labour Party.
