@SarahTheHaider Petrov Day is tomorrow!
Come to think of it, people aren't doing "more than protests" to prevent nuclear proliferation. Maybe ASI risk will be like that.
@SarahTheHaider It's not a trick, and definitely not a lie. Instead of only being able to say "it won't happen", "it will definitely happen", or "I don't know", you put your uncertainty on a scale from 1 to 100.
@typesfast I took econ in high school. It was a summer school class. The teacher basically just spent the whole time trying to convince the students not to open credit cards the minute they turn 18 and go into debt. Unclear if it worked!
@dab_chick 1. you're absolutely right to push back on that.
2. Maybe not a rando's basement, but open-weights models running on a network of data centers is super plausible
3. We can totally nuke ourselves to extinction, but we don't because of nuclear treaties. ASI may be like that.
@Rabadash2 The AI doom scenarios where investors/governments/everyone are tripping over each other to give as many real-world capabilities to as many AIs as they can are a lot closer to reality. US DoW turned on Anthropic for not giving them unsupervised kill privileges earlier this year.
@orphcorp I like the idea of intentionally asking schools to ban IABIED to get free marketing from those library groups that promote banned and challenged books
In retrospect, perhaps the most unrealistic part of IABIED will be the fact that Sable had to work so hard and have so much patience to gain control of meatspace tech
@C0MEONACONE Worth it though! Your priorities change, but it's fine, you just handle it.
When one is ready, of course. But overall it's more doable than some people think.
