This morning I was struck from behind by an illegal motorbike while running on the pedestrian path of the Williamsburg Bridge. The rider crashed into me, looked right at me, got back on, and fled.
I'll recover. The next person might not.
I looked for police for 30 minutes, then called 911 at 8:34am. NYPD arrived 76 minutes later and said they couldn't file a report because the bridge "wasn't their precinct." Then they left.
Two weeks ago, two people were killed almost exactly this way on the Queensboro Bridge - an illegal high-speed scooter on a path never built for motor vehicles. Every rush hour, thousands of us walk and run these bridges assuming we're safe from motorbikes. We're not, and no one will own the problem.
It's fixable: regular bridge enforcement, dedicated patrols, and automated camera enforcement.
@ZohranKMamdani@NYC_DOT@NYPDnews - will your administration act before someone doesn't get to walk away?

@TheSalGreco@1010WINS@sophiabhall1@j_stern97 Can you put that officer in the 3rd Precinct we have plenty of assholes that don’t know how to drive and a good fucking beating will teach them!

Paul Skenes was driving by a little league field tonight when he decided to stop and play catch with the kids. He signed and hung out for over two hours.
What a guy. That’s my ace 🏴☠️

When Secretariat died in 1989, the legend seemed complete, until the necropsy revealed the secret behind his impossible power.
Inside his chest was a heart that stunned veterinarians: an estimated 22 pounds, nearly two and a half times the size of a normal Thoroughbred’s.
It wasn’t diseased.
It wasn’t abnormal.
It was perfect.
Every chamber balanced, every wall strong, the anatomical masterpiece of nature’s own design.
That massive heart pumped oxygen-rich blood with unmatched efficiency, feeding muscles that never seemed to tire.
It was, quite literally, the tremendous machine that carried him beyond limits.
When he ran, his stride measured at nearly 25 feet, became an extension of that engine.
At full speed, his heart could circulate his entire blood volume twice in a single minute.
It’s why he didn’t just win, he expanded, accelerating when others faltered, as if time itself bent to his rhythm.
But what makes the discovery so moving isn’t the science, it’s the poetry.
That colossal heart wasn’t just muscle.
It was metaphor.
It explained what fans had always felt watching him: that there was something greater inside him, something immeasurable.
As one vet whispered after the necropsy:
“We finally know what powered him, but we’ll never understand how much heart he truly had.”
In life, Secretariat’s heart carried him 31 lengths past history.
In death, it reminded the world that greatness isn’t always about what’s seen
but about the size of the heart that beats behind it.
One thing I love about ethical wildlife photography is how much the animals tell you when they’re comfortable. This mama with 3 cubs could have easily gone way around us, but instead just continued on her path between both groups while we minded our business and gave her space.
