Today, the UK Right To Food Commission has written to the Prime Minister raising urgent concerns over rising food insecurity, increasing food inflation and reports of potential dynamic pricing for food in supermarkets.
With 14 million people across the UK already living with food insecurity, we are calling for immediate action to protect families struggling to afford basic essentials.
Our message is clear:
* Food is a human right, not a luxury.
* Dynamic pricing for food must never be introduced.
* Household incomes must rise for those most at risk.
* Support for community food hubs and grassroots organisations must be strengthened.
* Excessive profiteering while families go hungry cannot continue.
The evidence gathered by the Commission across Liverpool, Newcastle, Aberdare, Cardiff and Belfast shows that food insecurity is driving health inequalities, damaging life opportunities and deepening poverty in communities across the country.
We urge the Government to act now.

The Right To Food UK Commission, announced in September 2025, will interrogate and report on the scale and scope of food poverty and hunger in the UK today.
The Commission will be based out of the UK Parliament and take evidence from around the UK. It has been established jointly by the Right To Food Campaign, which is led in Parliament by Ian Byrne MP for Liverpool West Derby, the University of Westminster, the Bakers, Food and Allied Workers Union (BFAWU) and the Food and Work Network.
We are proud to be playing our part in the Right To Food UK Commission launching in Parliament on Monday
No one should be going hungry in the UK in 2025. We will deliver a roadmap for #RightToFood legislation that ends hunger. More info at: https://t.co/sZkyTNMax5
These shocking figures lay out clearly the link between in-work poverty and food insecurity
We need a #righttofood but an end to the systemic reasons why people are feeling insecure about food in the first place
16m Britons (24% of the population) live in poverty.
10m live in families in full-time work.
5.2m children live in poverty (36%).
Austerity, low wages, benefits, pension take toll. Destroy lives.
1% have more wealth than 70% of the population combined.

Great to read how @MayorofLondon Universal Free School Meals in London helps families financially & improves health, wellbeing & concentration levels of children. Exactly why Universal Free School Meals are a key ask of our national #RightToFood campaign.

We attended a brilliant community event on County Road this weekend alongside Walton Community Shop, @SFoodbanks and Love Walton CIC 💚
We support a #RightToFood and had clear messages for the politicians gathering in #Liverpool for the Labour Party Conference tomorrow.
“Access to affordable, safe, nutritious food should neither be a charitable act nor a luxury, but a basic right” - I am standing with trade unionists, academics calling @Keir_Starmer to tackle food insecurity

Prospect supports the call to end food bank Britain.
Mike Clancy has joined union leaders and @FoodandWorkNet1 campaigners urging the Prime Minister to tackle food insecurity. https://t.co/dUKNGzPMSL
Food bank use soared under the Tories.
This can't go on. The Labour Government must tackle poverty across Britain by ending 14 years of Tory austerity once and for all.
Union leaders join academics and anti/poverty campaigners from @FoodandWorkNet1 in sending an open letter to @Keir_Starmer warning that the government must not allow foodbanks to be normalised in Britain
