This FPT stakeholder roundtable with Minister Jones takes place ahead of the full FPT, which will be held in Halifax in July.
Thank you to Minister Jones and @AgricultureON officials for seeking our input.
Food and beverage processing was well-represented at the Ontario Federal-Provincial-Territorial (FPT) Roundtable consultation today.
The Ontario FPT Roundtable is an opportunity to share information on challenges that the sector is facing and highlight industry opportunities.
Food and Beverage Ontario's CEO Chris Conway, as well as @FHCP_PASC's CEO Michael Graydon, and @MeatPoultryON's Board Chair / FBO Board Member Doug Alexander were among the sector stakeholders who joined Minister @TrevorJonesCKL at the roundtable.
Together with @FoodBevCanada and our provincial counterparts, we are ready to work with governments and industry colleagues to advance the interests of Ontario's largest manufacturing sector — representing more than 4,000 processors and 120,000 jobs.
The federal government's recent announcement of "𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗼𝗶𝗰𝗲. 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹. 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗱𝗮" — Canada's first National Food Security Strategy — is an important step toward strengthening our national food system and enhancing food security.
We recognize
🔹A greater emphasis on food and beverage processing
🔹Meaningful action to address the ongoing labour shortages facing processors
🔹Measurable KPIs backed by detailed implementation plans going forward
