@footyinsider247 I think City lose the appeal overall. The commission's findings were too broad for this to come down to one technical point. City can challenge errors in law and fact, but overturning the heart of the verdict is a much bigger ask.
@goal De Bruyne may not cover the ground like he once did, but give him space around the box and the quality is still obvious. Two goals, both finished with the kind of technique very few players ever had.
Joao Pedro seeing a knee specialist in London tells you Chelsea are taking no chances with his comeback. He missed the 3-0 loss at Brentford and is targeting Bournemouth on October 10. Chelsea looked much flatter without him leading the line.
Dejan Kulusevski being back in full team training is meaningful after a knee injury that has kept him out since May 2025. Spurs have had setbacks with him before, so the important part is not a comeback date. It is that he is training with the group again.
Lewis Hall has another real chance at left-back after Nico O'Reilly left the squad. Hall played the full 90 in Prague, but Croatia is a harder test. If he looks as comfortable against a stronger side, England's left-back picture becomes less fragile.
Carlos Baleba finally getting minutes after a Β£70m move is a real United development.
He missed the first five league games with an ankle problem, so a behind-closed-doors friendly matters more than it sounds. The real test is whether his body now handles full training.π
United bought him to change their midfield, but nobody has seen him in a competitive game yet. Getting through these minutes is the first useful sign that the wait may be ending.
Dame Meg Hillier, who chairs the Treasury Committee, has written to HMRC asking whether it's looking at the tax side of the City case.
That's a different kind of pressure. The Premier League can deduct points. HMRC answers to nobody in football and works to its own clock.π
The commission found the owner's company paid 830m that City booked as sponsorship. Whether that's a tax issue isn't a football call.
City can appeal a Premier League panel. They can't appeal their way out of a letter from Parliament to the taxman.
Wilson Isidor has responded to Brian Brobbey's injury exactly as Sunderland would hope. He has scored three goals for Haiti in this break and looks sharp. If Brobbey misses time, Sunderland at least have a forward returning with some rhythm.
Greece's manager had to order Tzolis off in Thessaloniki. I told him to get out, Ivan Jovanovic said, because he wouldn't have stopped unless he felt something.
Greek sources now say two to three weeks. Arsenal haven't confirmed it, but that would rule him out of Bayern.π
If it holds, Tzolis misses Leeds, Forest, Lille and Bayern, with Everton on October 24 the earliest return.
Arsenal paid 34m for him in the summer. In a run with two Champions League games, his absence costs more than that fee suggests.
There's optimism Havertz hasn't suffered a long-term injury, according to the latest Arsenal injury roundups. Earlier reports had Arsenal fearing four weeks out. Nothing official either way. Until Arsenal confirm a timeline, Leeds on October 10 is a maybe at best.
Jan Paul van Hecke's injury sounds more concerning than the first training report suggested. Xavi says he was stepped on against Serbia and later could not even touch the ball in recovery work. For a Spurs side already short at the back, that matters.
Fabian Hurzeler fully earned September's Manager of the Month. Brighton's 3-0 win over Arsenal was the clearest example. They controlled the champions from the first half and never let the game become chaotic. The football matched the award.
England are finally treating the schedule like a workload problem. Tuchel eased Elliot Anderson and Anthony Gordon after Prague because both had high output. With only three days between matches, recovery has to shape the preparation as much as tactics.
They are correctly charged anyway. Calling it Abu Dhabi government funding does not make the issue disappear. City did raise that explanation at the 2024 hearing, but the commission rejected it as an account developed after the event. And Β£830m of government support for sponsorship still needs a convincing commercial explanation.
@goal Portugal look more balanced without every attack having to find Ronaldo. Bruno Fernandes had room to run the game and Cancelo kept influencing it from wide areas. One match is not proof of everything, but 4-2 away in Denmark is a strong start to this new setup.
England's game in Croatia being called behind closed doors while 5,000 to 6,000 children are expected inside shows how strange UEFA's punishment has become.
If most of an 8,279-capacity stadium is occupied, the phrase behind closed doors has lost much of its meaning.π
The exemption for children is meant to avoid punishing them for adults' behaviour. Fair enough. But once thousands are inside, the sanction stops looking like an empty-stadium punishment in any normal sense.
Arsenal's 3-0 loss at Brighton was not an effort problem. They have run 22.7 kilometres more than their opponents across the first five league games, the biggest positive gap in the division. The issue at Brighton was what they did with that work.
The idea that City players could tear up their contracts is serious in theory, but still a long way from reality.
No player has done it, and the legal argument depends on trust and confidence being breached. For now this is a possible consequence, not a squad crisis.π
The legal theory is interesting because it shows how wide the fallout could become. But until a player acts, treating it as an exodus story is getting ahead of the evidence.
@henrywinter The red card changed the game, but Wales still had to use it. After going behind early, they stayed in the match and turned it around. That matters after the run they have had. Bellamy needed a result like this, and Wales earned it.
@SkySportsNews That is a significant escalation. Once the Treasury Committee is asking HMRC about tax and National Insurance, this is no longer only a Premier League rules case. If HMRC opens an investigation, the same nine seasons could now face scrutiny outside football too.
