My sister was transferred to a prison work farm in VA, where she'll serve out her sentence.
It's one of the nicer prisons in the state. Still, she'll be required to labor 8 hrs/day for $0.45/hr.
"I can't believe it, Kristine. It's 2022 and I'm really a slave on a plantation."

This is not hyperbole. But the fourth part of Fiona Apple’s story is one of the clearest, most succinct, & powerful explanations of the impact of pretrial detention. Not just on individuals but on families and communities.

We want to lift up other groups working on abortion issues to help develop a bail fund focused on this area. We intend to serve as a stop-gap to get people out of jail until we can transition the resources & responsibility to an abortion focused org. If this is you, get in touch!

If you are an activist who is approached by police for questioning, you don't have to answer any of their questions. You can say "I don't answer questions without my attorney present", send them away, and then contact us. We can get you connected to a lawyer for advice.
As part of our solidarity with Ms. Yvette (@Faith_Fatum), we wanted to share lessons we’ve learned from her. Ms. Yvette’s next court date for arrests related to #OCCUPYWSNC is on Thursday, July 28th at 9am at 200 N Main St. Winston Salem, NC 27101.
