This evening as our President returned from Bulindo in Kira Municipality where he had gone to check on one of our lawyers, Musisi George, the police and military under the command of one Twesigye surrounded our vehicles and started firing live bullets, teargas canisters and other projectiles. In the process, our President #BobiWine who was clearly targeted was shot in the leg. He is currently being attended to by a team of medical doctors.

This is yet another attempt on the life of our President by the Museveni regime!

I regret to announce the sudden death of our comrade Byekwaso Ali, aka Ali Benz who tragically lost his life in an accident this morning.

Ali Benz is one of the patriotic senior friends that I have known all my life from our old village in Kanoni-Gomba.

He was a great fan and associate through the years of our music career who featured in many of our music works over the years, including the famous ‘Byekwaso’ video.

Upon joining politics, he was among the first people from
Gomba that embraced the struggle and traveled the entire country with us on the campaign trail, enduring so many challenges including prison.

He was a dedicated and passionate member of People Power and NUP, and a senior foot soldier.

We shall lay him to rest tomorrow in Wasinda-Gomba at 2pm. Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un. May his soul rest in peace.

I want to salute the creatives who have joined fellow Ugandans in speaking out, mobilising and taking part in protests against corruption and misrule.

Creatives (singers, comedians, media personalities, cartoonists, photographers, etc) are all a product of society and have even a bigger responsibility to speak on behalf of the people in times like these. When society raises us up and gives us a platform, the least we can do in return is to amplify their voices on issues that affect them.

I salute you @Faizafabz, Sammy Okanya, @beewol, @maulanareign256, and all the others who ended up being arrested and detained for simply exercising your civic duty!

While others were either remanded or released on bail, Sammy Okanya remains detained at CPS way beyond the mandatory 48 hours. Last evening, our human rights team was finally able to access him briefly and he is of strong spirit. Lawyers have been denied access to him. He is still in so much pain following the violence meted out on him.

In all this, let us soldier on, driven by the certainty of victory. WE SHALL OVERCOME!
