Northern Powerhouse Rail delayed again. London gets certainty, Yorkshire gets excuses.
This is why we need stronger regional governance — decisions about Yorkshire should be made in Yorkshire.
We’re not asking for special treatment, just fairness. https://t.co/oeuICSoyLq
I think the issue here is to draw attention to the fact that Yorkshire; a region with a similar population to Scotland, an economy around twice the size of Wales, is not a political entity, is more than a county but not a country; has no powers and is not recognised by UK gov.
@ForParliament Thanks for the support!
At a time where policies seem more and more based by parliamentarian experience of london transport services, we must shout louder for Yorkshire which has no where near the same level.
@WorldOBarry@brodawel The account is pretty consistent. We want a Yorkshire Parliament to be responsible for Yorkshire's affairs. The details of how this might work will probably be worked out by a Yorkshire Constitutional Convention. UK politics is incoherent.
@WorldOBarry@brodawel The point is that Westminster no longer effectively fulfils these roles. You are right, there is a need for effective central governance. The best solution would be for Westminster to step up in that area and give the regions real devolution.
@BinneyLuke The problem with Yorkshire is that it has not been treated as a single entity for a very long time. It is more than a county but it is not a nation. A problem for us is that it is not a single political entity which it should be if it is to have its own Parliament.
Nation status would lead to Cornwall having more control over housing, transport, and the economy, with decisions taken locally rather than hundreds of miles away.

Remember the protests against #fracking in @wrexham back in 2014-6? Well, Reform want to get back to causing mini earthquakes to extract gas beneath our homes. Fracking is still not welcome in @Wrecsam!

Westminster does not work for Yorkshire. We want a Yorkshire Parliament. English independence would do nothing for us. Westminster has completely failed to tackle English regional inequality.
@RHonnoraty The fact that Yorkshire is not a political entity should have been priority number 1 for the Yorkshire Party from the outset. To some extent, we have also been guilty of falling into this trap. Yorkshire must be a political entity and we must have a Yorkshire Parliament.
It's a similar situation in Yorkshire, two hours to travel 28 miles and that is considered a direct service. No HS2, chaos and disruption on the transpennine line, overcrowding, trains that would be better in museums. It's all in hand evidently. Seeing is believing!
Wales is paying billions towards rail projects in England, but it still takes over 6 HOURS to travel 45 miles in Wales.
We demand a fair deal for Wales!
