According to bankruptcy filings and Cayman liquidator documents, Charitable DAF HoldCo was not a U.S. charity — it was registered offshore in the Cayman Islands, holding assets meant to benefit veteran-focused nonprofits.

Those filings outline:

• Assets moved under insider control

• Transfers into privately controlled companies

• Charities’ stake reduced or diluted

• Value meant for nonprofits wiped out

• “Extraordinary compensation” approved for an insider

• Internal discussions about making the charities’ interest “effectively worthless”

That’s a massive red flag.

$269 MILLION tied to charitable beneficiaries ended up inside an offshore structure — and the filings suggest those moves severely weakened the charities’ position.

According to those documents, Mark Patrick is repeatedly identified as a director and controlling insider of the Cayman entities with authority over the transfers and restructuring decisions.

These are allegations made in official filings, and his side disputes parts of the claims.

But one thing is clear:

Veterans and Gold Star families deserved better oversight of the funds meant to support them.
