To kick off HOPE Week on July 3rd, we will be honoring Damar Hamlin of the Buffalo Bills.
Yankees players and coaches will take part in CPR training in the Yankee Stadium outfield with former Fordham softball player Sarah Taffet, the American Heart Association and NYC Public School Athletic Leagues (PSAL) personnel.
The @Yankees are honoring Damar Hamlin and former
@FordhamSoftball player Sarah Taffet during Hope Week, which celebrates acts of goodwill and perseverance. Taffet also went into cardiac arrest during a game and was saved by athletic trainers.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to every single Fordham student, alum and fan for your support. Culture change isn’t just for the players on the roster.
This is Rachel Leahy: joined Army West Point Athletic Training Staff in 2019–works with men’s ice hockey program. She saved a life last night. Eric (below) just told me: “Can’t say enough good things about our AT Rachel..she truly saved my life last night.” #cawlidgehawkey
Army’s Eric Huss suffered a potentially catastrophic injury Thursday vs Sacred Heart taking a skate blade to the neck. Army trainer, Rachel Leahy, jumped on the ice and calmly helped control/stop the bleeding. Another medical hero. Huss is out of surgery and is stable now.
We don’t need to comment on the event further.
All I’ll add is that this is why you have expertly trained Athletic Trainers, Physicians, and EMTs on the field every game.
Aside from a hospital this athlete was in no better place to be assisted.

Praying for Damar Hamlin and his family.
Also thinking about the athletic training staff and medical personnel from the Bills and Bengals. While we rehearse emergency medical situations like this, we never hope to use it on our own athletes.
