Earlier this weekend @pete_ar_fryn asked me for my thoughts on this. For the inevitable point where I get pigeon-holed into either being a loony liberal (true) or gilet-wearing rural traditionalist (also true) - my background is about 20yrs of working in the British countryside, either in the 'outdoor' sector or in practical conservation and land management.
I can assure you that I sit firmly in both camps - because they should not be in opposition to each other.

Busy week, so just about got this weeks #positiveforestry posted in time😮💨
Is worth it though because this one shows that sometimes forestry doesn't have to be labeled as one thing or the other and neither do the people working in it. And the benefits are sometimes not obvious
@1edmountain North of Dava. Wind driving the smoke to Dallas area. Second fire on Cawdor/Muckrach. Don’t know much detail yet but significant areas burnt from what I have heard. Cawdor fire may be under control, not sure about Moray Estates one.

Guides will on hand to tell you the history of this 13th century church.
Successive govts. have been far too reliant on “opportunity / constraint” mapping, presumably driven by remote data and algorithms - to the point where stuff can’t happen even though it’s clearly the right thing if you just looked on the ground or listened to the people who do
So this week in the world of farm/environment/land management/ mapping has been “interesting”
And by “interesting” I mean “verging on the utterly bonkers”
Why? Well this week started with Natural England, the government body that looks after the environment launching a new map.
We've been to @cairngormsnews, exploring for ourselves what people living there think about the Natural Environment (Scotland) Bill.
Our fresh perspectives will feed into the recommendations we make to @ScotParl later in the year.

Wood is all around us every day...
Have you seen this @forestsandwood animation? It highlights the benefits of wood and how well-managed forests can support people, wildlife and the environment.
