I keep seeing this same defence being offered by otherwise sensible people: the notwithstanding clause is part of the Charter and therefore there is nothing unconstitutional about invoking it. /1

Another jurisdiction grants inherent rights to a natural object, going beyond entrenching citizen's rights to a safe/healthy environment (constitutionally entrenched in 149 countries). Canada has done neither, and it is time that we do.
