Campaigning for more than thirty years to save the meadows that inspired E.M. Forster - and running out of time to halt planned developments. Please support us.
That's it-the end. @StevenageLabour has voted to pave over the last remaining fields of E. M. Forster's beloved fields, to create an "urban recreation park" with spoil mound, car park, road network, speed humps, bollards, municipal bins. A literary, cultural, wildlife haven is lost
Tonight and throughout this unhappy recent history, @StevenageBC has shown it is far from the co-operative council it claims to be. Tonight the only winner is Bellway Miller & its executives who profit from the increase in share price that happens each time the council rolls over
Our last chance to stop this is TOMORROW: Wednesday 29th November, Stevenage Borough Council Offices, 6.30pm. Bellway Miller is so confident the new planning committee will nod this through that they've basically re-submitted the plan the previous committee rejected. Please come.
We appeal to @StevenageBC for a last-chance rethink of its new urban recreation park, as the impact on wildlife of construction works in the heritage fields known as Forster Country has started to become appallingly clear. Story here: #saveforstercountry https://t.co/vidC0FbDLe
We warned @StevenageBC and Bellway Miller that their plans for an urban recreation park would harm this land and the wildlife that has roamed across it for centuries. So did @EnglishHeritage and @CPRE They didn’t listen. Now this: @thecomet24@HertsMercury
The developer now plans to build an urban recreation park on the remaining land, with car park and road network. Here’s how you can help stop them and insist @StevenageBC keeps its promise of returning the fields to land that E.M. Forster would recognise. https://t.co/o006xTo2KH
The outline housing project was approved in 2020. But this was a chance for the council to impose the highest design standards it could in the conservation area. It could have built the houses people need in a beautiful way to match a beautiful place. Instead: rubbish blocks.
We are devastated to report that @StevenageBC insists it will build on #ForsterCountry a municipal park with car park, toilet block, grounding station and road network. We were assured that a period of consultation would yield a shared vision for this precious space. But no. 🧵
