@robbiehendricks You’re one of the richest people I follow on here, no doubt.
Great share, brother. Godspeed to your boys. Miss those Ohio summers when I was their size, feels like a second ago.
Will be 30 next year and currently fighting the mortal fight to build this exact thing. Cheers. 🍻
@jasonjosephlee People find what they are looking for. Few things more tragic than the scenario you are describing. Absolutely criminal waste of life potential.
@Budgetdog_ Forget college and get his life insurance license for $300.
Learn social media lead generation & build an automated sales funnel to book appointments for life insurance clients.
Make $200-400k per year selling a product every person with a pulse needs.
I just explained it to you.
The average client is better off with no fee-based financial advisor whatsoever.
They can purchase life insurance online themselves.
The only financial professional most people need is a great CPA.
Most people under $25M in assets have no need for investment advisory to outsource deploying their capital.
The entire industry is based on vague appeals to expertise that are not rooted in any stable reality.
“it’s too complicated for you to figure out, so give me 1% of your net worth to underperform the market average by the margin of my fee.”
That is the entire industry in a nutshell.
I actually often make more per sale from term life products because they are younger clients with higher income & ability to pay a higher premium.
I am self-employed and run my own brokerage so I don’t shill whole life for my employer or any captive carrier.
You have no idea what you’re talking about, and have likely never sold life insurance or even know how agents get paid.
Advisors will charge in excess of several hundred thousand, potentially millions in fees over the life of a client.
That translates to, at minimum, millions in potential lost gains over decades.
There’s really no comparison to a life agent making $500-4k off of a sale from a whole life product.
It is pure cope from exceedingly obsolete advisors that provide little to no helpful advice that justifies their fee.
These are people who want to passively clip 1% of their entire book’s net worth as a means for income.
You have no concept of what a scam is, because you are likely biased beyond any reasonable ability to be honest.
my mates financial advisor manages $40m
yet forbids his own kids from hiring one
he told me this after 4 drinks at dinner last week
"never. i would never let my kids pay an advisor"
this is a man who feeds his family on advisory fees
his public advice to 120 clients:
- buy index funds
- diversify
- be patient
- trust the process
- pay me 1% annually to manage it
his actual portfolio:
- 60% in one tech stock
- leveraged rental properties
- undisclosed stake in his mate's bar
- zero index funds
the man selling diversification bets everything on concentration
4 drinks in he stopped performing
"my advice is designed to not get me sued. not to build wealth."
direct quote
"compliance tells me what i can recommend. not what works. so i sell what's safe. safe for my career."
asked what he'd actually tell clients
"stop paying me"
"buy one rental property. manage it yourself. you'd make more in 10 years than i'll ever make you."
"but if i told them that i'd be out of a job"
the fee he hopes you never calculate:
1% on $500k
30 years at 8% growth
year 1: $5,000
year 10: $62,000 cumulative
year 20: $159,000 cumulative
year 30: $236,000 cumulative
a quarter million dollars
for someone to put you in these 3 funds:
- VTI (total us market)
- VXUS (international)
- BND (bonds)
that's it
you can google those in 10 minutes
that's the $236,000 secret
"the industry isn't built to make you rich. it's built to make your money manageable. for us. we get paid whether you win or lose."
asked about his biggest regret
"teaching rules i stopped following at 35. telling pensioners to be patient while i take concentrated bets on my lunch break."
what he sells:
diversification. patience. index funds.
what he owns:
concentrated bets. leveraged property. private deals.
what he tells clients:
"stay the course"
what he tells his kids:
"never hire someone like me"
asked why he doesn't just quit
"and do what? i've spent 15 years building a practice around advice i don't believe in. the golden handcuffs are real."
"every month 120 people pay me 1% to do something they could do themselves"
"i'm not going to be the one to tell them"
so i am
dinner cost $80
stop asking what your advisor recommends
start asking what they own
and whether they'd let their kids pay for it
A must read for any man in his 20s or 30s.
If you are depressed because your life lacks purpose it’s most likely because you are a lazy, entitled coward.
You are at war whether you are enough of a man to acknowledge it or not.
Wake the fuck up and wage war on whatever you know to be the Hero’s journey you should be pursuing.
At the very least when you go down swinging you’ll feel like your life has some stakes.
Had dinner last night with my friends.
Seven of us who haven’t gotten together in a while.
You know, the classic… Guys get girlfriends and go off the map type of vibes.
Couple of us see each other more often, but the other three not as much.
As we’re all nearing our 30s the conversations, the projections, the cope all hits a little harder. 📖
For the first time in my life after hanging out with my friends I felt worse after.
Felt like I was surrounded by negativity. Gloom and doom. Pessimism. Defeat.
Everyone sharing cool ideas. No one with any agency or initiative to do anything with it.
My friend John was there. The Bitcoin bro I talked about before.
I was talking to him one on one. We’re talking life. The old days. Work. Ideas he had. Society. Everything and anything.
I could tell he’s been feeling down.
He’s 28, voluntarily unemployed and he said something to be that I didn’t know how to respond to.
“Yeah well, you’re an anomaly you always had high confidence and especially now that you’ve accomplished things at a young age. I feel like I haven’t accomplished anything. There’s not much for me to be confident about.”
I was taken back.
It was the classic drunk words are sober thoughts.
I thought to myself “what the fuck kind mentality is that?”
But I knew it wasn’t the time or the place. My friend is down and out and has been for some time.
He doesn’t need to hear the truth right now. He’s defeated.
I would just be the bad guy, again if I told him what I wanted to say.
“Bro… you’re a grown ass man. 6’ 4”. Built like a Greek God. Who has decided to be unemployed and live off of your girlfriend. And you feel like you haven’t accomplished anything? It’s because you haven’t. It’s because you have chosen to be a loser and live like a loser and now you’re sitting here trying to figure out why you’re a loser? What of kind pussy shit is that? Drowning in comfort and doom scrolling all day long while the whole world is out there for you for the taking. And you’re sitting here moping? Man the fuck up. 80 years ago you’d be in Germany fighting the Axis in the winter. Grow up.”
That’s what I wanted to say. But obviously that wouldn’t have landed well at the moment.
That was one of many conversations last night.
Hurt my fucking soul.
To the point where I was doing my best to uplift them and it either fell on deaf ears or it was followed by [excuse] or [cope].
Sad.
These are my guys.
These are good looking.
Well mannered.
Well respected.
Great guys.
If it can happen to them then I can only imagine the state of the average man in America.
Masculinity.
Comfort.
Convenience.
Doubt.
Distraction.
Lust.
All things that have been used to subdue the population of young men in America.
This was a hard tweet to write since I’m a loyal mf and would do anything for my brothers.
But man.
If you’re a young man today that feels anything like that or lack any sort of initiative in life?
You need to read this tweet.
Say “yeah that’s me”.
Delete all of your social media apps.
Delete all dating apps.
Quit every vice you have.
And turn your life around.
Because whatever you’re doing now is not working and will only lead to a life of misery.
@sweatystartup I am continually blown away by how many successful operators and business minds still fundamentally do not understand Bitcoin or can extrapolate its value.
The hubris to believe that USD world reserve currency is the end of history is kook level delusion beyond any crypto nut.
@ztownsend@nathanmccauley Hey Zac, sent you a DM to learn how I may incorporate meanwhile with my business.
Love your work and look up to you from afar.
Would be eager to connect further in learning how I can be part of your growth story.
Cheers, my friend!
