After 14 months of bargaining, we've secured an agreement for our members that raises wages, strengthens job security and reflects our core values. 🧵
STATEMENT (1 of 2): The NewsGuild of New York supports state Senate Bill S7759, known as the ‘Keep Police Radio Public Act,’ which would ensure that journalists and the public can listen to police transmissions without any barriers. Read more here ….. https://t.co/wN0UNeyf5O

"Journalism is not terrorism, and covering violence is not the same thing as condoning it. Journalists document tragedy as it unfolds and shine a light on a dark world. Our job is to seek truth and report it, especially during a war."
We strongly condemn the killing of journalists in Gaza, Israel and Lebanon and call on all parties to ensure the safety of journalists. We also condemn comments made by Benny Gantz, an Israeli government minister, who compared journalists to “terrorists” https://t.co/lRKTdvEduZ
.@evangershkovich, a fellow journalist, remains unjustly detained in Russia.

Something has to change. @LeeUnions launched a campaign to highlight the cuts by the company and how it's preventing communities from getting the news they deserve. #LeeUnionsRaisingAwareness https://t.co/JL6uLGmae9
🚨WE WON! 🥳‼️
We have a tentative agreement on a contract that will give our members more money and job protections and resolve our ULP.
Our strike is over - we’re going back to work tomorrow!🎉
“Also, Nich is not annoyed at the union — after all, it was only a handful who participated in the stunt — and he can’t wait to have them all back at work soon.”

1/7 We stand in solidarity w/ @latguild on a fight we at @insiderunion are all too familiar with— blatant disregard for labor laws and the creation and distribution of quality journalism.
Hope @meridak is smarter than @nichcarlson or @hblodget in not testing journalists’ resolve.
“Anyone who destroys a life is considered to have destroyed an entire world.”
Our former opinion editor is an enduring stain on the Forward. Those who enabled her rise through our newspaper should condemn what they helped create.
I ride the subway a lot. Not a week goes by that a mentally ill person doesn't get on and terrorize the entire car—especially women, especially Asians. Usually the men just sit there and pretend it's not happening. It's a disgrace that working New Yorkers have to live like this.
There are no "economic headwinds" there are no "evolutions in the media industry" causing these layoffs. The blame is fully and always with these rich dudes in charge, making bad business decisions, and never facing any fucking consequences for them.
Jonah Peretti: “I could have managed these changes better as the CEO of this company and our leadership team could have performed better despite these circumstances. Our job is to adapt, change, improve, and perform despite the challenges in the world. We can and will do better.”
This isn't a fight between democracy vs. authoritarianism. If anything, the Right is calling for more democracy and has an elected coalition, while the Left is using extra-legal measures like shutting down airports and highways to guarantee minority protections.
After 3 years of thriving with hybrid work, we cannot in good faith agree to a contract that would give @nytimes the unilateral right to call us into the office 5 days a week — the company’s current position. 865 @NYTimesGuild members delivered this petition to management today.
